What makes TechShell certified cases special?

Get certified protection with TechShell

Device cases are everywhere, and the options can seem endless. They come in all shapes, sizes and colors, and many make big promises when it comes to protection. With so many decorative options out there, it can be easy to forget that device cases are more than accessories. When accidents happen, they’re the last line of defense! And all too often, people find out too late that their case isn’t protective enough.

INVEST IN YOUR INVESTMENT

Devices are expensive. Even the most affordable models, at scale, are a huge investment. After making large purchases, the last thing a buyer wants to consider is an added accessory expense. But especially for those overseeing a deployment of devices, the lifetime costs of ownership must be considered. How does the cost of the case compare to replacement and repair costs? A $49 case more than pays for itself if it keeps a laptop out of the shop!

And costs go far beyond money. Time is valuable, both in education and in business. When devices go down, productivity does, too. Even a few days of missed work or class can have a large impact. Investing in protective cases saves on this harder-to-quantify expense.

STANDARD STANDARDS

Consumers not only face an overwhelming variety of choices – they also see an overwhelming number of claims about performance. When investing in cases, you want to be sure you’re getting value for your money, but without industry-wide standards, it’s impossible to be sure.

A certified case means that it’s passed the standards set by TechShell. These standards can be used across a range of devices, allowing them to be compared accurately. Cases are also tested with 26 drops, so devices face danger from every angle. Hopefully, in the field, devices would not be dropped quite so often!

Some cases claim to be up to “mil-spec” standards, which is an impressive-sounding name that doesn’t add up to much. In fact, there’s no commercial organization or agency that certifies compliance. So even though the name sounds reliable, there are no set standards for calling a device “mil-spec” approved. TechShell certification eliminates this concern.

EXTREME, RUGGED, AND BASIC CERTIFICATION

One of the best features of TechShell certification is it allows customers to know exactly the level of protection they’re getting, regardless of outside appearance. This information is essential when making buying decisions, especially for large deployments.

Unlike so-called “mil-spec” standards, TechShell always uses the same drop testing criteria:

  • Up to 5 devices.
  • Dropped 26 times.
  • At a standard distance (2, 4, or 6 feet).

Extreme Certification pushes the limit with 6-foot drops. This extreme level of protection is ideal for expensive devices and hazardous conditions. With more and more young students receiving educational devices, some schools might decide that Extreme protection is the way to go… even if the students themselves are much shorter than 6 feet!

Rugged Certification ups the standards to 4-foot drop tests. Again, cases are tested with 26 drops and up to 5 devices. This distance covers many everyday accidents, such as drops from desks, tables, or arms.

Finally, Basic Certification means that cases have survived 26 drops from 2 feet, using up to 5 devices. This is a great level of protection for older students or devices that stay overnight in charge carts. Basic Certified cases are ideal for wear-and-tear protection that helps maintain the resale value of devices.
